We know how stressful buying a horse can be, whether you are a first time buyer or buying another show horse. We strive to make the process as easy as possible and provide all of the details you need to ensure you are picking the right horse. If we know of any outstanding issues, injuries or maintenance with one of our horses you can be guaranteed we will tell you about it up front. If you have any specific questions regarding the process, please reach out to us.

Sale Process

We operate on a first come first serve basis. Meaning whoever can physically view the horse first has first right of refusal, unless bought site unseen. We do not hold horses unless a PPE is scheduled and a horse is not off the market until payment is made in full.

TRIAL

We encourage buyers to come and try the horse prior to purchase on our farm, however many people also buy site unseen. We don’t allow horses to leave the property for trials and do not offer lease options.

VETTING

We welcome buyers to do a Pre-Purchase (PPE) should they choose. It’s up to the buyer as to what they are comfortable with vetting and how extensive they would like to get. There are plenty of buyers who opt to do a PPE and plenty who choose not to. If there’s an issue with the horse prior to purchase we will ensure you know about it. We have a list of local vets that will come and do a PPE. No horse is perfect, but a PPE is used to ensure the horse is appropriate and can handle the job you want them to have.

Most of our sale horses will come with a set of x-rays prior to posting the horse for sale. This is an extra step we do to try and ease the sale process. You are still welcome and encouraged to get your own PPE done on them.
If a horse you are looking at doesn’t have x-rays on file, then just ask us why. It could mean that the horse is here on consignment - horse hasn’t been here long and we haven’t had time to get any done - horse is unbroke or lightly backed with no wear/tear - etc.

If a buyer wants to schedule their own PPE for the horse and not have the horse shown until results are back, then a $500 deposit will be required prior to the PPE to hold the horse until results are in. The buyer then has 24-hours after the results of the PPE to make a decision or the horse goes back on the market. If the buyer goes through with the sale, the deposit goes towards the purchase price. If the horse fails a PPE due to an issue that would limit the horse for the advertised career, the deposit is refundable. If the buyer backs out of the purchase of the horse for reasons other than the PPE, the deposit is non-refundable. Horse will be shown to potential buyers until the horse is paid in full, regardless of deposit, however the buyer doing the PPE will have first right of refusal and all other parties viewing the horse after will then go on a wait list. A deposit is not required, only if you would like them to stay off the market. We will inform you if others are scheduled to view the horse to help your decision as to whether you want to put a deposit down or not, we don’t enjoy the “we have other buyers coming” game.

PAYMENT

Payment must be paid in full prior to the horse leaving the property. Payment is acceptable via WIRE TRANSFER. We do allow personal checks and PayPal on a case-by-case basis, but the funds must clear the bank prior to the horse leaving.

SHIPPING

We allow the horse to stay for five (5) days free of charge while shipping is arranged. After five days, there is a charge of $25/day until horse is picked up (paid in full prior to them leaving). For longer stays, an increased daily charge or training board will be required. Finer details are stated in the Bill of Sale. We have several shippers available to ship all across the US. You are also welcome to ship or hire yourself.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Moving can be stressful for many horses and the farther the drive, the more time they will need to settle into their new homes. Please visit the Sale Horses page to see how each horse settled in when they arrived. It’s not uncommon for a horse to need one to two weeks to completely settle in. Some horses will walk off the trailer ready for a ride, others will be more cautions and need time to get used to a routine. Remember each horse is different and will require a different length of time. If any questions arise about behavior, please reach out to us and we will confirm whether it is normal or new behavior for that horse and give ways to help them settle in better.

Please check out these articles that share some insight on how long it takes horses to settle, both in the pasture and in the arena.

”There is no set time to determine how long it takes for a horse to get used to its new home, but most horses settle in within a couple of weeks.”

”So have some patience, be kind, move slowly if he is spooky and do not try to make him adjust too fast. It will happen in time and that calm horse you bought will show back up.”
